ah, Christmas Eve.. I'm loving it. everyone's in such a great mood and it's highly contagious. kinda makes me wish every day could be Christmas Eve.
just got back from a nice meal at my Granny's house and exchanging gifts with Shelly. I'm SO damn broke right now, but I did what any good guy would do and made a nice variety package for her... couple of old Dead shows, some candles and holders, little assortment of incense, some candy and a little angel bear to be there for her when I can't (she lives up in Athens..).
did a lil' shopping last night too and got a few things for my family. that's the one bad thing about this time of year. I'm always last-minute and usually broke. always makes me feel bad when I can't get nice things for all the people I care about..
*this is when you guys chime in with "GET A JOB!"*
..but I managed to do pretty good. I just hope everyone likes their gifts..
Merry Christmas to all and best wishes for the New Year!

found this funny lil' piece of polikicks...
Over 5,000 years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up
your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the
Promised Land."
Nearly 5,000 years later, Roosevelt said, "Lay down your shovels, sit
on your asses, and light up a Camel; this is the Promised Land!"
Now, Dubya wants to steal your shovels, kick your asses, raise the
price of your Camels, and mortgage the Promised Land.
***
Dubya also wants to change the Republican Party emblem from an
elephant to a condom, because it stands for inflation, protects a
bunch of pricks, halts production, and gives a false sense of
security while one is being screwed.

once again, mays has brought me to a story. yeah, I'm in a great mood to tell this.
got wasted the other night.. started watching 'Memento' and I fell into a deep sleep on the couch. started having this FUCKED up dream. I got in some vehicle with someone whom I can't identify, being that I never saw their face. all I kept hearing were these really monotone phrases come from them. anyway, we start chasing some woman across this field. driver starts flooring it and we're heading right for this lady. we get to her at the edge of this field and narrowly miss her.
mind you, this is all VERY realistic. not one of those half-and-halfers. this is one of those dreams that you wake up and feel bad about the shit.
anyway, when we miss her, we fly into this row of big pine trees. if you'll remember, driver floored it, so we're going about.. 80. so we slam into these trees and I freak out.. but just as I'm about to die, everything hits super-slow motion. all of a sudden, we're just coasting through these trees and they're all crashing around us, but we're good. still slow-mo, but I'm relaxed seeing that nothing is really happening. blaze a trail through this forest, pop out into this little beach scene with a huge house out on the water with this long dock leading up to it. we keep sailing in this thing we're in and crash all through this house, diving under water.. just all out.
now y'know how in certain parts 'Memento' the main character has the "serious voice-over thought process" scenes? well that was the monotonous voices I kept hearing. whoever was driving had the main character's voice and was saying this weird things to me, which I'm sure isn't weird in the movie.. but when you're in a vehicle crashing through shit and chasing women across fields, ANYthing is weird, especially when you're talking like a B-rate movie action star's subconscious.
well the monotonous voice somehow carries over and everything that was going on turned into this big, tripped out dream sequence. I don't really remember all the things that were in it, but I just remember everything kinda floating around in space __really__ slow. think 2001: A Space Odyssey.
well the dream ended with this infant tumbling through mid-air, head over heels. he slowly flipped into a large sheet, but the sheet looked like a big piece of notebook paper. the sheet caught it and just cradled it up. and then I woke up.
talk about a head-trip? hellooooo Swiss cheese head. so yeah, that's my 'Memento' story.

I'm wasted. it's 4:30 in the AM. I have a final and 2 makeup tests tomorrow.
why do I do this to myself? spice. I like the spice. without it, life would be... bland.
still trying to get over this little bout of sickness, as well. nose is running as I type. the Alka-Seltzer did OK, but I really think riding dirt roads, smoking cigarettes, and drinking beer helped much more. thanks, Cristobal del Oeste. of course, the liquor probably helped, too.
I sound like an alcoholic. the funny thing? I rarely drink. ah well.. feelin' good.

I'm drinking a glass of Alka-Seltzer Plus and it's about to make me gag. they should seriously have a merger with Kool-Aid for the sake of all those in search of quick cold relief. my Dad gave me some home remedy earlier about gargling warm, salty water, but something just doesn't strike me right about gargling warm, salty liquids.
must've been a bad beach experience. *wink*

mays brought up the subject of lighters over on his page. got me to thinking about these lighters I have that I love.
yes, I have a lighter collection. no, I didn't put little labels on the bottoms of each telling what concert encore I lit it for. to go ahead and fully unglorify the collection, it's amassed mainly from my (un)knowing habit of pocketing lighters that I borrow.
anyway, the ones I love are these little round lighters that I've only seen twice. EVER. so, of course, I now own them. my scanner is on the rocks right now (there's another story), but I managed to do some homework and come up with these .gifs to illustrate my babies.

aren't they just great?

I wanna update it aesthetically, as well as what's lacking in content.

Ripples interrupted by stoic embraces,
10 million faces racing to no finish,
Rolling waves diminished to trickles
That tickle the surface with a slow massage.
A barrage of October, a mosaic of season,
Forms a collage with deceiving roots of mirage.
The surface and what’s real
Take up lodging in a mental two-car garage…
Ripples interpreted into interrupted rhythm,
Sun sets and rises, burning on two horizons.
Where sure faces are surfaces fortifying with lying eyes,
Disguising the denial within.
Crying. Yearning to be forgiven, arms raising,
Praising to be delivered trickles of giggles.
Tender remembrances of cool tears in whisking leaves,
Contorting orange innocent trees of early winter bliss.

dammit. REALLY getting annoyed with these Microsoft tech support guys. not that they're rude or anything, just that they don't know what the hell they are doing. I've been on the phone with them countless hours over the past few days trying to get my computer back in working order to no avail.
it all started with a simple error message I was receiving upon shutdown. now? no Internet. I dunno about y'all, but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. anyway, you would think they'd be like:
'oh, well that must have happened when we did this, so we'll just do this and everything will be back to normal.'
instead, it was more like this:
'hmmm.. well, we don't really know what happened. it shouldn't have done that. I don't know why it would have. I've looked over the case notes and can't seem to find anything.. I'll have to get back with you, mmmmmkay?'
sensing a theme here? to make matters worse, John Q. Computerfixer (HA, his name really IS John...) didn't call me today when he was supposed to. actually, he didn't call at all.
nice. wonderful. splendid.
looks like no Internet for me for quite some time. wish me luck with this dreadful endeavor and I hope all of you guys are having a wonderful holiday.

watched an AMAZING meteor shower last night. me and Shelly went out to her big field in the country and watched meteors and a big group of deer. Chris, Heather, and some of their friends showed up later and we all just hung out and 'oooh'ed and 'ahhhh'ed all night.
on a darker note, Shelly's granny has Lou Gehrig's Disease and she's taking it really hard. it tears me up to see a girl cry, but it's almost too much when it's someone I care about like her. all I could do was hold her and let her know I'm there for her, but she's known that for a while... it's crazy how you can go through so many ups and downs with someone, but when times get hard, you just know you'll be there for each other.
to end on a better note, I messed around with my ghetto ass Sound Recorder program last night just to see if there was any way to come out with a decent sounding multi-track recording on there. came up with this:
Lonesome
give it a listen, with Sound Recorder and standard computer mic in mind. =^)

ah, weblog neglect!
so far, this week has been one of those weeks where everything just kinda gets by. I walked into BIO class Monday night to find everyone head down in notes studying their ass off. dammit, we have a test... I walked up to the board and wrote 'Test Rescheduled For Wednesday', but the teacher wouldn't buy it. so I did the rational thing. I walked out. no really, I sat there and did a 10 minute power session and took the test. how'd I do? we'll find out tonight...
hung out with this kid Jason the other night for the first time in a while.. we used to burn MAD trees back in the day, steady trippin'. forgot how funny he is. hopefully he'll be around more.
in other news, just started reading 'A Chinese Garden Of Serenity: Reflections Of A Zen Buddhist'. I guess reading Kerouac rekindled my affinty for the ways of Zen, so I'm reading up and learning while it's fresh. want an example? I thought you would:
'Fishing is a pleasure of retirement, yet the angler has the power to let the fish live or die. Chess-playing is an enjoyable pasttime, yet the players are motivated by the idea of war.'
while on the subject, my mom asked me what I was reading tonight and I told her. she replied, 'that's ok, but I'd much rather you read the Bible...' something about that struck me wrong.. what's the harm in learning about other religions? to take it a step farther, I think there should be classes on religion in younger years, at least in high school. maybe even middle school and elementary grades. let people learn about other religions and let them believe what they feel is natural, rather than force a set of rules down their throat. best stop now, as this could go on forEVER.
now that I've amassed a nice bit of bloggage, I think I'll step out and see what this day has to offer.
oh yeah, Regent's Test today... wish me luck!

had a great time up in Athens Friday night. went to a few bars, drank some beer, talked to some folks... just a good time. also got to meet my friend's new girlfriend, Leilani. she's Filipino and really cute, so good for Tubbs. hit up Best Buy and played with lots of stuff that I wish I could afford. wrote a little something after we left in my friend Dawn's little book and liked it, so I copied it and brought it home with me:
Unturned pages enrage a simple mind
Behind empty walls lies the content of dreams
Can't find the words hidden by thoughts resigned
What flows from the pen isn't always what it seems...
***
Kings and queens sip royal tea
Colored light brown, hues of forgotten simplicity
Righteous men boil leaves of earth
Grasping ideas instilled with birth
no real correlation, at least not intended. I did write them back to back, so maybe there's an unknown relation in the two that I've yet to find. at any rate, I liked them and I hope you do, too.
as for the rest of the weekend, we decided to drive back home yesterday afternoon. went out to Kyler's last night and I've just been relaxing today. me, Chris, and Kev hit the dirt roads this afternoon and had a great lil' drive. took some pictures which I hope turn out nicely. I've been thinkin' about making a gallery of sorts for some of my dirt roadin' pictures, just need to find the means to do so. if and when I get it runnin', I'll post it up...
just ate some enchiladas and they were excelente. time for a stope.

FUCK.
slept through that ENG 102 class I was waiting on. sat around the house trying to do anything and everything to pass time, but ultimately ended up dozing off on the couch. how typical of me.
gonna head up to Athens pretty soon... my buddy Chris turned 21 today, so a proper celebration is in order, Athens style. haven't seen Mr. Tubbs in quite a while, too, so it'll be great to kick it with him. this weekend is the big Georgia/Florida football game, and it's in Florida, so the place will more than likely be a ghost town. which is good AND bad. good because we'll get great service and if there's a good band playing, we'll get a great spot... bad because there will be an unusually low amount of señoritas roaming the streets. oh well, the good is plenty to go on. =)
now it's time to check on the haps in Athens... enjoy the weekend!

well, supposedly I'm getting a cable modem today. if not today, then early next week. this makes me VERY happy. I'm sure a good bit of you out there are still stuck with me in dial-up land, so you can imagine my joy at the thought of broadband. I'm hoping I can find something interesting to make use of the new speed, but I'll probably just check e-mail, update my site, and blog a LOT faster. works for me. =)
had quite the day yesterday, too. not so YES, just a nice day. spent the afternoon with Shelly and had quite possibly the wildest car tune-up/vacuum/wash ever. ok, maybe not ever.. I could tell some stories there, but then this thing would be more like a personal diary. not gonna go there. ANYway, ate a muscle relaxer after that and it was downhill from there. didn't want to do anything but sit on mine ass... and so I did. passed out around 12-ish and now here I am. woke up at 6 am. I'm telling you, whatever part of my brain is controlling sleep has issues. or maybe it's just me. shut up.
time to sit around for 3 hours and wait for my boring ass ENG 102 class.
have a great day.

had such a productive and eventful day today. as we said earlier, I washed my Honda and she thanked me for it. felt so good riding with my windows down today in my fresh ass car. I was loving it.
went to class and found out that it was cancelled. YES. -- talked to the lovely Cara outside of said class and remembered why I love women. YES. -- went and caught a 4x4 of one-act plays afterwards and they were quite enjoyable.. YES. -- then me and a couple of buddies went out to the state park and did a bit of trailwalking and bowl burning. great time... YES. -- made it to Biology class just in time and he ended up only making us stay for an hour in what's supposed to be a 2 ½ hour class. YES. -- came home to a great seafood dinner. YES.
now I'm sure you're thinking, 'how could SO much go right in one day?' well here's the catch. after eating my seafood, the long productive day began to take its toll on me. this is when Shelly calls.
"hey, I'm on the way home from Athens! get a bottle of liquor and come out to the house! it's been so long since I've seen you... let's get drunk together!"
now you would think it would be another YES. wrong. I passed out. NO. now I feel bad because she sounded really excited to see me and left a message around 11 sounding really sad. alas, all is good because I'm going to call her tomorrow/today/in 8 hours and go see her. take her out for lunch or somethin'... hopefully she'll accept the offer. =)
and now, here I am at 5 am bloggin'. I'm kinda starting to dig this thing. if you didn't notice up in the left corner up there, I got me a nifty lil' stat meter. I feel so advanced. much props to shep for the indirect help. I think I'm due up for a nice long rant.
I have a tight grasp on the notion that I'm an insomniac. maybe not even an insomniac, just a night person. I damn sure love sleeping, it's just the times that I choose to do so which throw a wrench in the gears of normalcy. a direct result of this habit is my attendance, or lack thereof, to a Tues. & Thur. PE class. being the schmuck that I can be, I just stopped going. I haven't been to the class in a good 2 weeks now, and that's just lame. it would have been so damn easy to just drop it, but my constantly growing slack resulted in my not knowing the final drop day had occured 3 days before I had the realization that I needed to do so. I'm doing great in all my other classes, and now I'm going to let a fuckin' PE class of all things bring me down. dammit.
in proper form, it's 5 am now and here I sit babbling. I've been going off on these deep tangents in my mind lately, just thinking about life and purpose and all that good stuff. read Kerouac's 'The Dharma Bums' last week, which didn't help said situation. not that it's a bad thing to think about, just that there's no real answer to come to. the whole Zen Lunatic way of life just appealed so much to me. it seems there are so few people these days, especially in our 'go, go, go!' society, that actually take time to enjoy life... to stop and smell the roses. life has become such an expected structure - go to school, go to college, get a job, get married, have kids, get old, die. why does the norm have to be so boring? work your entire life so you can reap the benefits when you're too damn old to get out and do so? fuck that. carpe diem. s'what I say...

"I'm just so happy to be here with friends... yadda, yadda."
save it... we know why you were there, rach. the drugs. admit it, you were SLOPPY in that interview. =)
I tried to set up a stat thing on my site tonight to no avail. such a slow learning process.
now I have a paper to revise for my ENG 102 class due at 11:00 am. it is the same paper that I had to completely rewrite because my ancient professor said he couldn't waste his time trying to read that. yes, the same professor who has to read everything he writes on the board 3 times so the class will know what the hell he is talking about. yes, the same professor who gave 75% of our class a 50 on our first essay. yes, the same professor who gave me a 75 on the grounds of it being 'a disorganized discussion...' I went to town at Old Navy yesterday. they had more sales than I care to discuss. being that I go shopping about once every 2 years or so, I was rather excited.
got me some new pants on and they put the 'fort' in comfortable. not sure why fort, but we'll keep it.
I also went to Best Buy. NEVER go to Best Buy when you are broke. torture, I tell you.

so, this is a blog. I suppose I should write something of interest...
I like apple juice. I like orange juice, as well. as long as there isn't any pulp.
