so I went against my best judgement and decided to set up the blogger commenting system. I used blogback for years and it's semi-sudden shutdown left me hopeless. when the script finally stopped working, I knew it was done - all those years of comments and conversations gone. ah well, what can you do but start anew.. I'm hoping to stay spamfree, but that's a far stretch it seems within this integrated system. I allowed everyone to comment and I apologize for the word verification - maybe it'll actually do it's job.

so hi. here's to november..

dutifully passed on (and pasted from) by missssssster roberts.

I give you.. THE BOOK BATON.

ahem.

---

Name three books on your book shelf. One from each end and one from the middle.

Bruce W. Talamon - Bob Marley: Spirit Dancer
Kirsten Bradbury - Essential Dali
John Kennedy Toole - A Confederacy Of Dunces

What reading material is in your bathroom?

just tempo-moved into my buddies' place. I found Stuff, Field & Stream, and XXL on the shitter.

[smoke break]

Favorite authors and why.

Kerouac - red wine, jazz, and zen; at any moment words may speed off the page.
Hesse - I read Siddhartha.
Gibran - "Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls."

I'll stop at three for all our sakes.

Least favorite authors and why.

I'd rather stick with the positives.. sorry.

What author is over rated?

See above.

Would you (have you) picked up a woman (or man) in a bookstore?

It'd be according to how much she (or he) weighed.

Do you eat while you read? If so what’s your food of choice?

I'm gonna go with coffee. yeah, I eat it. so?

Name one book you’d recommend for someone searching for meaning or insight or inspiration.

Meaning: Hung Tzu-ch'eng - A Chinese Garden of Serenity: Reflections of a Zen Buddhist
Insight: Daniel Quinn - Ishmael & My Ishmael, so as to double the dose.
Inspiration: Siddhartha (link above)

Name one book you’d recommend for a day on the beach or a rainy day in the house.

Paulo Coelho - The Alchemist

Do you judge a book by its cover?

most are either given or recommended, at least heard of - I"m not much of a shopper.

In the bookstore, what section do you head to first?

the comfy chairs.

Five people to whom I’m passing THE BOOK BATON:

alissa
andi
esther
heather
jenkins

---

and they're off!

I've been published! ok, not really. obliged is probably the better word. nevertheless, click here and scroll down through the gallery. my shots are one of three from the June 4th show at the fabulous 40 watt. they're currently five sets down. and they have my name beneath 'em. yeah, you got it. atta boy.

athfest has come and gone.

I'm moving out of my house this week. I'm also realizing how glorious it must be to actually buy and own one. it seems every time I get comfortable up here, it's time to move again. gonna kick it with a friend for the summer and hope that this other place I've been gassed about comes through.

stumbled upon 90 bucks at work the other night. felt sorry for the poor soul who lost it, but sweet jebus do I ever need it. really I'm doing ok, but in times of transition it never hurts to have a few extra dollars.

I've seen far too many sunrises lately, hence this.

I'm really gonna miss broxton.

another clickable. that shot is from the black keys' show at the watt back in may. been trying to get in touch with them about getting these posted up on their site, but to no avail. I have quite a few nice ones of them and openers the hentchmen. lemme know if you'd like to see more.

stumbled upon an archive of austen's photos from merlefest - keep it up!

I feel so used.. again.

hope you kids are having a great summer.

hope none of these links are dead..

discovered another literary scrap - here goes:

language is a virus.

i apologize for the eyes in my head.
say something worth breath.
say something about pomegranates.
say something about real love, yes
true love -- more than parted lips,
than parted legs -- in sorrow's bedroom
of potash & blues.

that's it, as written. aside from a correction of the spelling of 'pomegranates'. reading this brought me to yusef komunyakaa. I assume the writer has read or is currently reading his work. if not, the coincidence is amazing. wasn't sure about 'potash' - seems to be some sort of potassium compound. sounds pretty interesting, but I can't see how it fits. if it's truly meant to be as written, then that would reflect highly on the setting of things. but who knows? potash is also an uncommon last name. and if you separate the word, what else do you get but 'pot ash'. sorrow's bedroom sounds like a perfect place for a pile of pot ashes.

I'm listening to iron & wine's 'woman king ep'. I dig this sam beam guy. he sounds like liquor. well, it just finished so I'm gonna listen to some of 'the creek drank the cradle'. if you like raw acoustic and vocal harmonies you'll luff this stuff.

not much else as 8am creeps upon me. think I'll go have a smoke and watch the sun rise..

talk to me.

"I had a stick of Carefree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor, I was back to pondering my mortality."

take a bow, mitch. I enjoyed the show..

happy saint pat's!

I'm sitting here drinking a cold Harp in my new freezer mug. my sister sent it to me. it says "kiss me I'm irish". I think I'm really black irish. which is some kind of spanish/irish mix. whatever - we're all mutts. I am well aware of this. hi, I'm captain tangent.

it's march.. rain, flowers, & dog days to come.

I wonder what I'll be doing this time next year?

tom waits' new album is so great. I'm listening to "don't go into that barn".

what's up with you?
