it's a brisk 18 degrees tonight. with wind chill it feels like 5. in athens. georgia. if I say "I was just wearing a t-shirt yesterday" again, I'm gonna smack my own head into a wall. but really, it's wild. I was just wearing a t-shirt yester.. ow.

I'm not sure what's worse - being too broke to afford to shop for gifts or having the money and then having to actually do the shopping. I've pawed over so many shirts looking for the right one. not to be cliche, but there are a shitload of folks somewhere who would appreciate any one of them. I guess there's a pretty big difference in cultural wishlists. then again, mine doesn't say "food & peace for all" either, so who am I to notice?

dude, I'm getting a dell.

I'd bet I couldn't make it through a single handwritten page without at least one hand cramp. this typing shit is cake. with carpal tunnel icing. and little candy robot people. like grimace and ronald on the mcdonald's ice cream cakes. I bet there are a shitload of people who would love just one of those robots.

5 days and counting..

the person who coined the phrase "as slow as christmas" hadto have been a kid. the older I get, the faster it comes around. sneaks up on me like herpes. not to compare the two - christmas is way cooler. totally, dude. though herpes has its pros as well. there's a good chance that the carrier had a good time receiving it and you get eligibility in all those dreamy valtrex ads & commercials. and you could call what christmas has become an std of sorts - socially tarnished divinity. and no, I don't mean that tasty white candy shit. I mean everyone spending ungodly (see the tie in?) amounts of money on the most unnecessary shit in the world. and there's tons of unnecessary shit in the world. how convenient. we can just slap price tags on all of it and give to each other in the name of christ.

really though.. I love christmastime. good spirits and smiles are enough to make it all worthwhile. of course by that I mean quality alcohol and fuck me eyes. I keep wanting to be sincere and warm and fuzzy but my delirium keeps pulling shit from my mental gutters. they stay rather clogged.

merry christmas everybody - and here's to many more forehead bruises, underpriviledged nations, candy robots, herpes cases, pieces of divinity, and drunken sexcapades in the new year!

Liberal

Liberals…
-Are wary of American arrogance and hypocrisy
-Trace much of today's anti-American hatred to previous US foreign policies.
-Believe political solutions are inherently superior to military solutions
-Believe the US is morally bound to intervene in humanitarian crises
-Oppose American imperialism
-Support international law, alliances, and agreements
-Encourage US participation in the UN
-Believe US economic policies must help lift up the world's poor
-
-Historical liberal: President Woodrow Wilson
-Modern liberal: President Jimmy Carter

This is an interesting quiz. Wont you try it?

don't you love those e-mails? just love to see that in the inbox. always with a quaint little attachment. but click the link, because it is good. really. it isn't going to self-install onto yer hard drive or anything. just thought it was funny. moving on..

I found this at work last night. I guess you would call it a 'found poem', but it isn't in that found poems are made by words selected from a larger text and arranged into poetic form. which is something that sounds worth trying, but alas, I just literally found it. I'll call it 'happened-upon verse'.

once more I eat the lights
from behind the bar
once more I fall into
the hole inside my heart

giving into a promise
that you could never keep
here I am again
in over my head
I'm much too deep

trapped inside this fishbowl
finding there's no way out
and still it's sort of invigorating
to ignore the fear and doubt

there it is. on a small napkin. folded in half and caught in the doorjam. I think it should be open to psychological analysis seeing as how I have no clue who wrote it. so, let's talk. opens and closes strong, but the middle seems a bit weak. and not effectually - just weak. must be a big ol' fishbowl..

so much in two and a little months, but, y'know, sometimes this is what happens.

two huge nights with the truckers this past weekend. lotsa folks, great shows, and a little bit of cash in my roomy pockets. and as for an afterthought - go see this band.

lotsa new website action going on lately. check out josh's new one, the new home of mother jackson, and a deservedly updated site for our very own 40 watt club.

josh is working at a place called jimmy john's. he's there right now. I'm hungry. sounds like a plan..

this last month in our house has been a constant ordeal, but it's almost over. we're moving out this wednesday, and as much as I love this house, I can't wait to get out of here. after wednesday, I hope I never see our landlord again. bastard. as was mentioned in the comments on the last post, me & chris are moving into a new house (not trailer) not too far from here. it's a lot nicer and more well-kept, across the street from a park, has a screened-in porch, and it's sitting up on a hill. my dad will be proud. I'm really looking forward to moving in and getting everything settled in.

in other news, bonnaroo was muddy. very, very muddy. we had a blast, though, so no worries..

what's going on with everybody else? any summertime stories to share?

here's the latest on my end. I got a call today from kyler telling me our friend ryan OD'ed and was tossed out of the car behind some dumpsters by the people he was runnin' around with. helluva crew, wouldn't you say? anyway, when the paramedics found him he was already dead, but they managed to revive him and he's now in the hospital in critical condition. the moral of the story: don't hang out with folks who'd toss you out like last week's garbage when you need help the most.

hey, I didn't say they had to be happy stories..

once upon a time in a household far, far away...

the landlord showed up one sunny Saturday morning and cut every fucking tree and shrub in the yard down. in other words, it was a razing. a raping, even. then, as he and his amigos were preparing to leave, he gives the poor, poor renters a little "by the way, you've got thirty days to be out." he also managed to ruin their phone lines, but thanks to the prowess of one of the young renters, the problem has been resolved.

now the renters are going to live in a trailer.

this sucks.

the past couple of months seem to have happened in a dream during an afternoon nap. looking down at my last post reads like talk of yesterday, yet if I didn't have it to refer to, I wouldn't know what happened when. sounds bad, doesn't it? then again, they say it flies when you're having fun.

work had picked up again, but was pretty sparing this week with the kids all gone for spring break. we did a little spring cleaning earlier in the week and had a few shows this weekend, but overall 'twas a pretty slow week. the next two weeks, on the other hand, look to be pretty full. coming up we've got (sorry for lack of links) ted leo, now it's overhead, acetate (dave schools' side project), tone loc?! (I didn't even know about that one 'til just now), patterson hood & friends, breastfest, phantom planet, the def jux tour, and calexico. then next month brings fantomas, death cab for cutie & ben kweller, tortoise, and patton oswalt. so yeah, lots going on these next coupla months. pick a show and come hang out with us.

I've been slowly but steadily working my way through the lord of the rings trilogy. after seeing all the movies and reading the hobbit many years ago, I figured it was a good time to give it another go. the hobbit was much better the second time around, due in part to my knowledge of the big picture (no pun intended) of middle-earth and my growing up. it always seems that as I get older, the same books can have a much different effect on me at different times in my life. I finished the fellowship surprisingly fast, considering it was the third or fourth time I'd started, giving up no more than a hundred pages in every time. now I'm just getting into book four in the two towers. after reading all the action and adventure of book three, I thought this section may drag along with sam, frodo, and smeagol/gollum, but it's been really good so far. I'm only five chapters in though, so maybe I'll think differently later.

mitchell is completely out of the house now and we've been rearranging in the wake. dean decided to stay at the place he was in and a couple of his friends moved in there with him, so we now officially have a dining room. we've had a good time bringing it and the living room together. many thanks to chris' folks for donating the table and recliner - we feel like kings these days! chris also brought his stereo up, so we have music again, too. we've taken to big card games at the new table and rounds of darts, cricket to be more specific. one project in the works is a camping area in our backyard beside the rope swing. there's already a brick fireplace and a bench set up - just needs a little clearing out, a nice fire, and a couple of tents to be complete. bring your pets and your marshmellows and have a stay at 150's campground.

in other news, I fell about 10 feet out of our swing a few days ago. it hurt. I'm now a proud owner of a checking account, complete with check/debit card. werd up. my car keeps falling apart, little by little. but she's been good to me, so I can't complain. I'm gonna hate to see her go. speaking of hating to see her go, kayla finally got back to town after a week in mobile, alabama. she took a spring break trip with a group from uga and met some really nice folks, so I'm happy for her. I ate chinese food tonight and I have leftovers. sounds like a date. I watched the last 24 minutes of kubrick's 2001: a space odyssey synced up with pink floyd's "echoes". josh - have you seen this? if not, you should. (by the way, how's everything in atlanta?) what else.. played grand theft auto: vice city last night. it's scary how interactively realistic that game is. guns, drugs, cars, violence, prostitutes - what better idea for a game than a mirror of the world around us. as harsh as the general public was on this game, it's only showing a part of everyday life. (yes, I do realize it's glorified and placed in a market making it easily accessible to kids - and so is cable tv.) got a great card in the mail from my mom and dad earlier (thanks again). got 5 bucks worth of gas and laughed at the result.

now here I sit. I stink. work. tired. shower. I'm gonna clean up and catch back up with frodo & sam. happy st. patty's day to all you good folks and have a great march.

so it's been almost a month, has it? well then, let me get started.

nye wasn't bad at all. lots of folks came down to celebrate with us at the watt. the night went pretty smoothly, and that's about all we can ever ask for. my housemate chris worked with us, kayla and kelly came up and hung out, and we got to indulge in a drink (or three) while the night went on. for my first new year's on the clock, I'd say it was pretty successful. since then, things have been really, really slow. I think I've worked two or three shifts in the past couple of weeks, so I've had plenty of time on my hands. that time was translated into house cleaning, counter-strike, and "hangin' out". thankfully, things are picking up at work so I'll soon have money again. amen.

mitchell, another housemate, is moving out in february, so we'll be welcoming a new and former resident into the mix. dean lived in our house for a year or two before we moved in, so I'm sure it'll be good in all aspects. I was interested to see how things would go with just the three of us, but at the same time when it comes to bills and rent, the more payers the merrier. maybe we'll get another chance this summer.

like I said, things at the watt are picking up - 4 bands tonight, krush girls (again) tomorrow night, and the big throwdown on saturday night: kenny chesney with special guest uncle kracker. I know, it's crazy - don't ask me. the proceeds from the show are going to benefit nuci's space though, so there is an ultimate positive (not to mention attendance bonuses - hoowah!). anyway, I should go get ready for the night and the upcoming weekend.

congrats to shep on the contest win and esther on the engagement!

y'all be good.
